Netflix: a Great Service

February 8th, 2010

Netflix is an online DVD Rental service that eliminates all the hassles of going to an actual video store. What hassles you say? For starters the late fees! You never have to pay late fees with Netflix, because you can keep the DVD’s for as long as you want. Secondly, the drive to the video store! Netflix DVD’s are delivered right to your mail box. If you’re wondering about the selection, they have 70,000 in stock. I’ve browsed through their new releases, action and adventure, drama, independent and comedy; just to name a few out of their 200+ genres. I can’t think of a single film that Netflix doesn’t have.

I decided to sign up for Netflix about a month ago, after I’d heard such strong recommendations from my friends and family. Especially my uncle, he’s one of those very thrifty people that will shop around for weeks just to find the best price. When he recommended Netflix, I knew I’d be stupid not to give it a try. I always trust that mans consumer research, and I was right to do so.

Here’s how it works, plans start at $5.99 plus tax. You don’t have to worry about shipping fees because that’s totally free. You’ll receive your DVD’s in prepaid envelopes and send them back in prepaid envelopes. No searching for stamps and envelopes, because they’ve got that under control. Their most popular plan costs $17.99 a month. They call it “3- at-a-time-unlimited” because you can rent 3 DVD’s at a time, send them back and get 3 more off your list. I’d call that a never ending supply of entertainment. They have 6 plan options all together, with month prices ranging from $5.99 to $23.99 so you’re sure to find one that’s suitable for you. Netflix is offering a 2 week free trial right now, so there’s really no reason not to give it a shot. I highly recommend the service. Most people can expect to receive their DVD’s in just one business day. However, you should take into consideration that if you live in a very rural area your delivery may not be as quick. I stress the word very because I live in a rural area myself, yet I still receive my movies in about business 1 day.

Netflix DVD Rentals. NO LATE FEES; Free Shipping. Try for FREE!

I’m sure you’ll be pleased with the service. Still, if you do happen to change your mind, cancellation is easy. All you have to do is go to “Your Account” on Netflix.com, click the word “Cancel” and follow the instructions under the heading “Cancel Membership.” I doubt you’ll want to do that though. If you do not want to be billed, make sure you cancel your membership before your free trial is over. If you’re like me and you love the service, you don’t have to do anything at all because your account will be automatically renewed.

Are there any blu-ray players that can record to dvd-r?

February 4th, 2010

Hello, I would like to upgrade to a blu-ray player but i would like to be able to occasionally back up programmes from my sky+ or recordings to my video camera onto dvd. I want something that will do both of these. I know about the Panasonic DMR-BS850/750 but do not require such features as built in hard drive or freesatHD.
Any other ones out there? For the UK market?

Nope.

Discovering Pay Per View Channels

February 4th, 2010

I’m a gigantic movie viewer and I should have bought some stock in Blockbuster because I am always there renting and returning flicks for my high definition tv.

The people at our local Maplewood store even know me by name. I am not ashamed though, I just love movies, and they give me an escape from my long brutal day at work. One day after finishing my latest rental, I was channel surfing and I discovered many HD stations I didn’t even realize I had.

One of these was part of the pay per view feature through my cable Co.. I was growing with joyfulness as I browsed down the list of movies I haven’t seen. Numerous of them weren’t available at my DVD store because they were sold out.

I found at least six of them I craved to watch that weekend. I decided to agree on one just to see the difference in the DVD HD quality image versus the pay per view film. As soon as it started, I detected a difference.

Wow, was I in trouble now, I no longer will have time to do the long “to do” list I have at home because I have discovered HD pay per view. After going through nearly every movie in the list, I had to go back to DVD store. It has been a long time since I visited the store and they were all worried because they didn’t know what happened to their most common customer.

I told the workers about my discovery and they were all grinning shaking their heads. I picked up five more movies and returned home. Several nights later, I checked the high definition channel for pay per view movies and there were a lot more new ones available.

I was so joyful that my cable provider was on top of my needs and delivered such great movies in quality high definition picture. I returned the flicks to the video store and returned to my television for flick watching. Having HD movies available with a few taps of my remote has helped me save time, money and gas.

The high definition pay per view movies are cheaper than the ones at Blockbuster and I don’t have to drive 5 miles all the time anymore. I see my buddies at the store roughly once a month now because that is all it takes for me to get what I need in between the time my cable company offers new movies for me to observe.

Are ALL blu-ray players the same in picture quality?

February 3rd, 2010

Is the precision the same or is it like the newer the blu-ray player that you buy the better?

When playing Blu-Ray discs, all players should be able to deliver the picture quality as per the Blu-Ray standard. Of course, not all Blu-Ray (BD) discs are mastered as well as others, and many have been converted from film, possible creating some artifacting. My point here is that the same BD disc will look very similar no matter what BD player it is played in. Choosing a player from a well-known/major brand can also be a wise-move since firmware updates will most likely be required to ensure compatibility with future BD releases.

Another variable to consider is system calibration. This can have a great impact on image quality, and some BD players offer many more possible adjustment points that others. Also, will you be watching standard DVD’s on the BD player? If so, the quality of de-interlacing & scaling among BD players is widely varied. Disregard the advice on standard DVD scaling if you are watching on a screen smaller than, say, 37", but almost any display 50"+, and IMO all projectors will greatly benefit from proper de-interlacing & scaling.

Good luck with your BD player hunt!

Watch Free Movie Online - Why Pay High Movie And Cable Rentals?

February 1st, 2010

With the mounting prices of movie and cable rental outlets, businesses are en route to another method. Companies now put forward the opportunity to watch free movie online for a restricted time. Nowadays, there are many online movie stores to discover on the Internet. Joining the cause are several highly regarded and well-liked businesses such as Google. The types of movies you might find differ with each company, including iFilms and Atomfilms.

When you want to watch free movies online, there are a plethora of options available to pick from. The selections you might come across are usually trial, instructive, or documentary. Trendy picture titles that previously graced the silver screen will require you to pay a monthly fee. However, prior to paying any fees, you should have a look at the services of watching free movies online. You can do this by getting a free trial subscription that many companies offer, which for a determined period of time is absolutely free.

What You Need To Watch Free Movies Online

Vongo, which is a company you might have seen on many commercials, offers the online community a comparable selection of movies. You can enjoy both newer and older titles such as Daddy Day Care, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Fog, or Rent. These movies can be downloaded or watched online and all this absolutely free! However, the trial subscription will only last for fourteen days.

Before joining these sites, you should consider the space on your computer. Most movie titles range from very large 1.0 or 1.3 gigabytes to smaller ones that range from five hundred to seven hundred megabytes. The large movie files, will have a higher quality, but take longer to download. You should expect to wait about forty to sixty minutes for the download to complete. Once the trial subscription has ended, you will be charged a fixed price each month, which is typically around ten dollars.

A key factor to consider if you want to watch free movie online is the connection speed. If you are using a broadband connection or a DSL, you will get good quality films to watch. The same cannot be said about a modem. Consider watching movies which are streaming in nature. You can watch as soon as the downloading process starts instead of having to completely download and watch.

For watching free movie online, you should have all the required software. Normally, windows have a media player. You can also download RealPlayer for free. Most online movie sites offer download links. Close all other applications when you begin to watch movie online as it might effect the quality of the movie you are watching. Don’t forget to experiment with the settings of the media player to enhance your movie watching experience.

The Pros and Cons of Watching Free Online Movies

Online movies can save you both time and money. By watching free movies online, you eliminate the need of visiting the rental store or movie theater ever again. You can watch free movies online right at home with the internet and your computer.

You can take as long as you need to watch free movies online. There is no due date and no late fees associated with them. You can also take the time to actually choose your movies, you don’t have to quickly read the summaries and decide based on that. With online movie rentals you can get full and detailed information which might include character lists and movie summaries. This helps you make informed decisions and make great use of your time and money.

Frequently, the movies offered are restricted because talks with every motion picture company must be completed. You may not have the ability to view the film you have been waiting months to view. If you do not have patience, this might not be the best choice for you. When renting from an offline outlet, you get to select the movie and then carry it home. It is ready to go into your DVD or VCR player. When getting online movies, once the download is completed you are ready to go. In some cases, you will be able to watch free movies online while you download, but this is not the case with every online movie company.

Even though you can watch free movie online for a restricted time, several customers seldom stay on for the reason that they think they have gone through all of the probable movies to view.

Given that online movies are viewed on the computer screen, restrictions do exist. The movie has to be watched right at the computer. In most cases, the computer screen is much smaller than the television set. Furthermore, to get quality sound, you need a set of really superior speakers. You might have a computer that will allow you to hook it up to your television set. However, if you do not, you can purchase the equipment that will allow you to do this.

Summary:

With the mounting prices of movie and cable rental outlets, businesses are en route to another method. Companies now put forward the opportunity to watch free movie online for a restricted time. Nowadays, there are many online movie stores to discover on the Internet. Joining the cause are several highly regarded and well-liked businesses such as Google.

Deer Valley Vacation Rentals

January 30th, 2010

Be forewarned, Deer Valley is the kind of place that, no matter how long and luxurious a vacation you take, you might never want to leave. This will be especially true if you decide to hole up in a fabulous vacation rental (there are dozens to choose from in this area) that will provide the perfect setting for your family reunion, intimate gathering, or romantic getaway. Take a look, and don’t be surprised if you end up getting sucked right in.

Picture a house, more of a lodge really, that has all the qualities you’ve always wanted but didn’t really want to have to take care of; wood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, a huge fireplace; living here temporarily will allow you to pretend that this is your very own property, but you’ll never have to dust, sweep or mop. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, and we’ve only just begun.

Since gathering the whole crew together is a pretty big event, you’ll need a place that can properly hold all the fun, excitement and bonding that is sure to develop. Enough bedrooms and bathrooms must of course be had, but don’t forget about the other details. A great room (you’ll actually get to see what one of these really looks like) plus a spacious kitchen, a deck that overlooks the mountains and a game room equipped not only with a TV and DVD player, but with good old fashioned board games as well. With all this, you’ll almost forget that there’s a whole winter wonderland outside to be enjoyed.

Almost. The majestic mountains visible from your windows will beckon to you until you’ve all bundled up and strapped on your skis. Thanks to a nearby shuttle that comes around every few minutes, you can be deposited at the lifts, the shops, or anywhere else within the resort with very little hassle. Spend the day cavorting and then meet back at the cabin for après-ski, home style. The kitchen will allow you (or the family chef) to prepare a few snacks and drinks, and the king-sized hot tub will invite all sore muscled folk to be put at ease. Relax in privacy and relish the smiling faces surrounding you.

Condo-type rentals can be had even closer to all the action, housing you within 200 yards of the snow park. By the way, Deer Valley is fun to visit in the summer too, when hiking, biking, swimming, and sports take the place of snow-themed pursuits. The fresh Utah air and stunning scenery are pleasing pretty much any time, so keep track of your vacation rental info in case you decide to come back and see what it looks like under different circumstances.

No matter what the makeup of your group, be it family or a group of friends, everyone will appreciate being close but not too close. Shutting the door to your own bedroom and bathroom will be like having a hotel room, but the shared kitchen, dining space, deck and rec room will bring everyone together when they want to be. This delicate balance is not often achieved, and in fact is something to be marveled at.

If there’s a an event coming up that would be complemented by a stay in a Deer Valley Vacation Rental, or if you just want to make an event out of the upcoming ski season, then go online to start researching all the options. The best deals fall into the laps of those who think ahead, so don’t waste any time in pursuing what is sure to be an absolutely fabulous vacation.

Downloading Movies: the Current State of Affairs

January 25th, 2010

It’s all over the web; downloading movies is here. Unfortunately, many consumers are unaware of the benefits of the service and recent developments. When informally polling consumers on a home electronics website, it appeared that concerns revolved around not having the equipment or knowledge of how to download, the cost, the time involved, and lingering questions about the legality of downloading. Let’s address these one by one.

• Is downloading movies legal?

Consumers no longer have to worry about unwittingly obtaining copyrighted material illegally through peer-to-peer file sharing nor being exposed to viruses that are so common in peer-to-peer situations. Both Movielink and Cinema Now offer movie download services in agreement with the movie studios. Movielink in fact is owned/operated by Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, Universal, Sony, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. In addition, they finalized a deal with 20th Century Fox in November 2005 giving them content from all of Hollywood’s major film studios. Movies can be rented or purchased and downloaded to PC; however, those knowledgeable about the industry indicate that it is likely the ability to transfer movies onto DVD and then play them on television is forthcoming.

• Does downloading movies take a long time?

The time it takes to download depends on a number of factors such as the file size, the user’s connection, and the computer’s capabilities. As connections and computers have become faster, the time required to download has been significantly reduced. In general, it takes 45 to 90 minutes. Faster downloading is surely in the future but in reality it takes no longer than going to the store to pick up a movie. In addition, downloading can be accomplished 24/7, allowing users to download while they sleep.

• What equipment is necessary for downloading?

As an example, to download from Movielink, high speed internet access, Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, and Windows 2000 or XP is needed. Movielink recommends at least 300 MHz, an Intel Pentium III+ processor, 128 MB of RAM, a full duplex soundcard and speakers, and a 65,000 color video display card set. The movies will play through Real Player 8.0+ or Windows Media Player 7.1+.

• Is downloading movies more expensive that renting at the store?

No. Most local video stores will rent a DVD for a recent release for $3.60-5.00 for overnight to one week. Movielink rental prices are in the $1.99 to $4.99 range and purchases are priced from $8.99 to $27.99. There are no membership fees or commitments, only the per movie fee.

• Is downloading movies difficult?

No. It is generally a process of selecting the movie, initiating a Movie Manager type program to download, and then storing/saving the movie to the PC. Most movie download sites understand that this is a new process for many people and they offer tutorials and comprehensive FAQ pages to answer questions and offer instruction on the process. Movielink even allows users to participate in live chat if they have unanswered questions or if problems arise during the downloading process.

Armed with information about the true benefits and current status of downloading movies from the internet, it should become clear to consumers that it is a viable option and strong competitor to DVD Rental. With no committment or membership payments, downloading offers new users the chance to “try it on for size” without any worries.

Rent Movies Online - the Easy Way to Rent

January 21st, 2010

Why most Americans rent movies today - how you can save money on movie rentals online. Rent movies online and save yourself time and money if renting on a monthly basis.

So how do you think most Americans entertain themselves these days? Some of the most celebrated weekend activities include shopping, going to the movies renting movies or having dinner with friends. When it comes to daily entertainment, many people enjoy their spare time and low cost of recreational choices like viewing television, playing video games, and renting movies online.

Why Rent Movies?

People rent movies for many incomparable reasons. One of the most popular departments at your local video store is the new movie releases section. This is where people go to find the most recent films available. It’s a good way to catch up on all the flicks you missed in the theater. It’s also a magnificent way to save money. Before watching a movie at the theaters, many people decide to wait for it to come out on DVD. Several films are ready for rent within months of their theatrical debut.

Some people rent titles to preview them for their DVD collections. While the cost of DVDs has declined in recent years, most people still don’t want to add a movie to their compilation until they know that they enjoy the movie and will watch it again. A DVD rental club is often the best choice for movie buffs. Normally these clubs offer incentives for people who rent DVDs several times a month.

Whether you’re a cinema buff, or just rent movies on occasions, there are many excellent video stores and websites devoted to serving you. The local store is an excellent choice for last minute rentals. The online services are also a great way of renting without the hassles of traveling. They also offer very competitive prices if you rent more than a few times a month. With a little bit of planning you’ll always have a reserve of quality DVDs. There are no late fees, no shipping fees, and at just $20 a month, these sites pay for themselves after just three or four rentals. Netflix, Blockbuster Online, and Intelliflix are just a few in the business that can be worth their weight in gold in the long run.
